FOLIC ACID VIATRIS 5 mg tablets are used for:
· the treatment of anemia due to a lack of folic acid;
· the treatment of folic acid deficiency due to poor absorption of food in the intestines, insufficient dietary intake, or alcoholism;
· reducing the risk of neural tube defects in babies (e.g., spina bifida) during pregnancy for pregnant women with a known folic acid deficiency or who have previously given birth to newborns with neural tube defects.
On average, 1 to 3 tablets per day.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine. Folic acid and its derivatives 5-methyltetrahydrofolate and 10-formyltetrahydrofolate are excreted in breast milk. No adverse effects have been observed in infants who were breastfed by mothers who received folic acid supplements during pregnancy.
The use of this medication is not recommended in patients with a malignant disease (cancer), unless anemia due to folic acid deficiency is a significant complication and must be treated.
Similarly, the use of this medication is not recommended in patients with tumors that require folic acid.
The use of this medication is not recommended in patients suffering from epilepsy and being treated with diphenylhydantoin.
Taking this medication requires close medical supervision, particularly in cases of alcoholism, hemolytic anemia, or concomitant anticonvulsant treatment.
