What are verrucas? They are benign skin injuries from a virus called Human papillomavirus (HPV) which normally heal by themselves (65% heal after 2 years). There are 2 types of verrucas: * Myrmecie: the most common, deep, painful, singular or group. * Mosaic-form verrucas: not painful, multiple verrucas, contagious, superficial. The spread of verrucas between humans is by direct contact (skin to skin) or indirect contact (dirty floor). Exposure to this virus does not systematically give you verrucas. It normally takes 2-3 months before any signs but the virus can stay active for several years after contact. A change in skin (scratches, cuts), hot or humid places (swimming pool, communal showers...) or a deficiency in the immune system can all cause the activation of the virus in your body. How to treat a verruca? If you have pain on the sole of your feet when walking it is recommended to use a treatment like this. However most treatments only have a 70% success rate. Recurrences are frequent (30% of cases) because the virus is still there after treatment. Treatments with corrosive substances (e.g. Salicylic acid) are long and clean areas need to be well protected. The most aggressive methods (liquid nitrogen, laser) are painful and can leave scars. Using Epitact Epithelium Activ Verruca Plasters is risk and pain free. It spreads out the pressure put onto the verruca and makes it disappear.
